Users
Within the last years tm has gained interest from a variety of researchers and users of different backgrounds. In an attempt to inform new users about existing tm applications this site aims to provide (an incomplete alphabetical) list of tm users and their comments. Known users range from research institutes over companies to individuals.

- Gary King (Harvard University, USA) and his team created RSNL, an open source software platform for the statistical analysis of unstructured textual data. RSNL uses tm as middleware component for interfacing R and its application layer.
- Gero Schwenk (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main, Germany) deployed tm in a social science course he gave at the Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen (Germany).

For my PhD studies I was experimenting with topic classification using support vector machines in R. I used the tm-package to bring the input corpora in the adequate format for SVM training/testing. I found the tm-package really easy to use (thanks to the excellent documentation) and very versatile (due to the possibility to extend it with custom functions). The combination of R and the tm-package made me really feel like I was having my fingers directly on the data. Thank you Ingo Feinerer for creating such a nice package.

I could process a corpus of about 7000 newspaper articles using correspondence analysis and hierarchical clustering, and identified chronological trends. No other lexical analysis software would have made possible combining those different approaches.
